Sculptural Marvels of Feminine Grace: The Madanikas (or Salabhanjikas) are the 42 exquisitely carved bracket figures that are the highlight of the Chennakesava Temple in Belur. These celestial nymphs or chaste maidens are celebrated worldwide for their dynamic postures, intricate detailing, and the sheer vibrancy they bring to the stone structure. They are placed at an angle on the exterior of the main temple walls, acting as brackets between the eaves and the pillars, as well as on the four central pillars of the Navaranga (main hall). How to Reach

By Air: The journey to view the Madanikas begins with reaching Belur town. The most convenient airports are Mangalore International Airport (IXE) (150-160 KMS) or Bangalore's Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) (220 KMS). From either airport, a taxi or state bus is required to complete the journey to Belur.

By Train: The nearest railway station, Hassan Junction (HAS) (35 KMS), offers good connectivity from major cities. From Hassan, the journey to Belur can be completed by local bus (most economical) or by hiring a private taxi (most comfortable) within one hour.

By Road: Belur is a significant hub, ensuring excellent road connectivity. Regular and comfortable bus services (KSRTC) run from cities like Bangalore and Mysore. The drive is scenic and well-maintained, making a self-drive or hired cab a viable option.

By Local Transport: The Madanikas are housed within the main Chennakesava Temple, which is centrally located in Belur town. From the main bus stand, it is a very short walk (under 1 KM) to the temple gate. For those with mobility issues or heavy camera gear, a local auto-rickshaw is readily available and inexpensive for a short ride directly to the temple entrance.
