They are placed at an angle on the exterior of the main temple walls, acting as brackets between the eaves and the pillars, as well as on the four central pillars of the Navaranga (main hall). Different Types of Seasons: The Best Time to View the Madanikas is during the Winter season, from October to March, when you can spend extended periods examining the outdoor carvings without the heat. This is crucial for their detailed appreciation.

Different Parts of the Day: The Ideal Part of the Day is the Late Afternoon (4:00 PM to 6:00 PM). The low, angled sunlight in the late afternoon creates the deepest shadows in the high-relief carvings, making the intricate details of the Madanikas (jewelry, hair, expression) pop out with incredible realism and clarity. The early morning light also works well, providing a softer, gentler illumination.

Midday is Sub-Optimal: The intense, high-angle light around noon flattens the details, making it the least ideal time for artistic appreciation of the three-dimensional figures.

Mahotsava Illumination: Viewing the figures during the night of the Hoysala Mahotsava (March/April) when they are professionally illuminated is an unparalleled aesthetic experience, transforming the stone figures into seemingly living dancers.
