Concrete Gravity Design: The Mattupetty Dam is a concrete gravity structure, standing at a height of 85. 34 meters and a length of 237. 75 meters. Its architecture is designed to resist the horizontal thrust of water through its own massive weight. The dam features 3 radial spillway gates that manage the water level during the monsoon. The reservoir has a capacity of 55. 4 million cubic meters, covering a vast surface area of nearly 100 square kilometers. The road built atop the dam allows pedestrians and vehicles to cross, providing a vantage point to observe both the reservoir and the valley below. The integration of the concrete structure with the natural rocky landscape is a fine example of mid-century civil engineering in India.
