Power House Waterfalls

Munnar, Kerala, India
Power House Waterfalls, also known as Chinnakanal Waterfalls, is a spectacular sight situated on the way to Thekkady. The water cascades down a steep rock from a height of about 2000 meters above sea level. It originates from the sacred Sita Devi Lake in Devikulam, and legend says that the goddess Sita herself bathed in these waters. The name 'Power House' is derived from a nearby old hydroelectric power station. The falls are surrounded by lush green mountain ranges and dense tea plantations, providing a serene atmosphere away from the main town's hustle. Visitors can feel the spray of the cool water as it crashes against the rocks, creating a natural mist in the air. The base of the falls forms a small pool where people often dip their feet, though caution is advised during the monsoons. The area is rich in diverse flora, including various species of mountain orchids. It is a perfect pit stop for those traveling toward the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. The roar of the water can be heard from a distance, inviting travelers to stop and admire the force of nature. It is particularly beautiful after the rainy season when the flow is at its peak.
