Photos Of Gangabal Lake

Sonamarg, Jammu and Kashmir, India
Gangabal Lake, also revered as Harmukh Ganga, is a large, sacred alpine lake situated at the foot of the massive Mount Harmukh (often called the 'Kailash of Kashmir'). It is one of the highest altitude lakes in the region, sitting at approximately 3,576 meters (11,732 ft). The lake is fed by glacier s and is the source of the Wangath Nallah, which drains into the Sindh River. It holds immense religious significance for Kashmiri Hindus, who consider it a manifestation of the Ganges and use it for the immersion of ashes (Shraddha rites). Reaching it involves a demanding trek, either from Naranag or as part of the continuation of the Kashmir Great Lakes Trek.
