All Saints Cathedral
Historical Context: The All Saints Cathedral, locally known as Patthar Girja (Church of Stone), is a prime example of Gothic Revival architecture in India. Its foundation stone was laid in 1871 by Elizabeth Huntly Wemyss, the wife of the then-Lieutenant Governor Sir William Muir, and it was consecra ted in 1887. The cathedral belongs to the Church of North India (CNI) and was designed by the acclaimed British architect Sir William Emerson, who is also credited with the design of the Victoria Memorial in Kolkata. Architectural Splendour: Built primarily of cream-coloured stone with red sandstone dressings, the structure's grandeur dominates the Civil Lines area.
