Tank Bund
Historical Significance and Purpose: Tank Bund is the 2.8 KMS long dam wall that separates Hyderabad and its twin city, Secunderabad, along the circumference of the man-made Hussain Sagar Lake. The lake itself was commissioned in 1562 by Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah and named after Hussain Shah Wali. The bund wall was constructed in the late 19th century to prevent the overflowing of the lake, particularly during the monsoon season. Today, it is a bustling promenade, a central cultural hub, and a major city landmark. The Avenue of Statues: The most distinguishing feature is the collection of 33 statues of eminent historical and cultural figures from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, which line the entire length of the bund.
