Border Haat

The Border Haat at Kamalasagar is a vibrant and unique cross-border marketplace established between India and Bangladesh. Located right on the zero line of the international border, it serves as a symbolic bridge of friendship and economic cooperation between the two nations. This market allows local residents from both sides to trade their indigenous products without the usual customs and trade barriers. The haat is not just a commercial hub but a cultural melting pot where people from Tripura and the Comilla district of Bangladesh meet, share stories, and exchange traditional items. Established in January 2015, it has significantly boosted the local economy by providing a platform for small-scale farmers and artisans. Visitors can find a wide array of goods ranging from fresh vegetables, fruits, and spices to readymade garments, plastic products, and traditional snacks. The atmosphere is filled with the hustle and bustle of trade and the warm spirit of cross-border brotherhood. It is a strictly regulated area, ensuring safety and security for all participants. For tourists, it offers a rare glimpse into the daily lives and interactions of people living along the international border, making it a must-visit destination for those interested in international relations and local cultures. The scenic backdrop of the Kamalasagar Lake adds to the charm of the marketplace.

Boxanagar Buddhist Stupa
The Boxanagar Buddhist Stupa is one of the most significant archaeological discoveries in North East India, shedding light on the flourishing Buddhist culture in ancient Tripura. Unearthed by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in the early 2000s, this site consists of a massive brick stupa, a monastery (Vihara), and a prayer hall (Chaityagriha). Historical evidence suggests that the site dates back to the 6th to 9th centuries AD, during the reign of the Kharga dynasty. The discovery was accidental, initially found by local villagers while digging for a building foundation. The stupa is a grand red-brick structure that stands as a testament to the architectural prowess of the era. Excavations also revealed several bronze idols of Lord Buddha, terracotta plaques, and clay sealings inscribed with Buddhist formulas. The site provides a peaceful and spiritual ambiance, surrounded by lush greenery and the quiet countryside of Boxanagar. It is a protected monument of national importance and attracts history buffs, pilgrims, and researchers from across the world. The presence of such a large-scale Buddhist complex in this region proves that Tripura was once an important center for Buddhist learning and philosophy. Visiting this site feels like stepping back in time, as one walks through the corridors of the ancient monastery and visualizes the monks who once resided and meditated here. The site is well-maintained with manicured lawns and informative signboards.

Kamalasagar Border
The Kamalasagar Border is a unique point on the Indo-Bangladesh boundary where history, religion, and international relations converge. Unlike many other borders that are marked by tension, the border at Kamalasagar is known for its peaceful and serene atmosphere. It is located right behind the famous Kasba Kali Temple, making it a rare site where a religious place of one country overlooks the territory of another. The railway station of Kasba in Bangladesh is clearly visible from the Indian side, often providing sights of passing trains and bustling commuters. The border is fenced with high-tensile barbed wire and is heavily guarded by the Border Security Force (BSF), yet it remains a popular spot for tourists to experience the proximity of a neighboring nation. The landscape is a mix of the calm Kamalasagar Lake and the flat, fertile plains of Bangladesh. For many visitors, standing at this border evokes a sense of shared history and the complex reality of Partition. It is a place of quiet reflection where one can appreciate the cultural similarities that transcend political boundaries. The area is well-maintained, with viewpoints that allow for safe and clear observation of the border pillars and the "No Man's Land." It is an essential stop for anyone visiting Tripura to understand the state's unique geographical and cultural positioning.

Kamalasagar Kali Temple

Kamalasagar Kali Temple, also known as Kasba Kali Bari, is one of the most revered religious sites in Tripura. Built by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya in the late 15th century, it stands on a hillock overlooking the vast Kamalasagar Lake. The deity is unique; while it is a temple of Goddess Kali, the idol is actually of a ten-handed Durga (Mahishasurmardini) carved from sandstone. Because a Shivalinga is placed at the feet of the deity, she is worshipped as Kali following the Shakti tradition. This temple holds immense historical value as it sits right on the edge of the India-Bangladesh international border. Visitors can see the border fencing and even hear the whistles of trains from the nearby Kasba railway station in Bangladesh. The serene environment combined with the spiritual aura makes it a top destination for pilgrims and history buffs alike. The temple underwent several renovations by later kings of the Manikya dynasty, ensuring its survival over centuries. It serves as a symbol of the deep-rooted religious heritage of the region.
