Rabdentse Ruins
The Rabdentse Ruins are the archaeological remains of the second capital of the former Kingdom of Sikkim. Established in 1670 by the second Chogyal, this site was the seat of power until 1814, when it was destroyed by the invading Gurkha army. Today, it is a protected monument under the Archaeologi cal Survey of India (ASI). The walk to the ruins is an experience in itself, passing through a dense forest known for its birdlife and ancient chestnut trees. As you reach the ridge, the ruins open up to reveal stone thrones, palace foundations, and three stupas (chortens) that have stood the test of time. The site offers one of the most spectacular views of the Kanchenjunga range. It is a place of deep historical reflection, where one can imagine the royal processions and the strategic importance of this mountain fortress. The silence of the ruins, contrasted with the majestic peaks in the distance, makes it a must-visit for history buffs and seekers of tranquility.
