Historical Significance: The Kathok Wodsalin Gompa is a relatively Newer structure but holds profound historical and religious value, as it is named after one of the three revered Tibetan Lamas (Kartok Chempo) who consecrated the first Chogyal of Sikkim in 1642: The original site's significance is a ncient, linking back to the founding of the kingdom, even if the current building is modern: The monastery belongs to the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism, which is the dominant school in Sikkim, particularly associated with the teachings of Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche): The main prayer hall features a large, impressive statue of Guru Padmasambhava, who is considered the Second Buddha and the patron saint of Sikkim: Its location, directly across from the sacred Kartok Lake, whose water was used for the coronation, cements its place in the sacred historical landscape of Yuksom: It is a vibrant center for local worship and monastic learning, contrasting with the ancient, secluded atmosphere of the Dubdi Monastery: The monastery is actively involved in preserving the local Buddhist culture and traditions of the area.
