History of the Magnificent Collection: The Salar Jung Museum is one of the three National Museums of India and houses the largest one-man art collection in the world, amassed primarily by Mir Yousuf Ali Khan, also known as Salar Jung III (1889-1949), a former Prime Minister of the Nizam of Hyderabad . The collection was opened to the public in 1951 and moved to its present location on the southern bank of the Musi River in 1968. It is an astounding repository of global art, history, and culture, featuring objects from virtually every corner of the world. Scope and Variety of Exhibits: The museum is spread over 10 acres with two expansive floors, housing over 43,000 artifacts, including manuscripts, carvings, textiles, paintings, sculptures, and metallic artifacts.
