Travel Tips Of Numaish

Hyderabad, Telangana, India
What is Numaish: Numaish Masnu?t-e-Mulki, meaning 'Exhibition of Local Products and Crafts', is an annual consumer exhibition held in Hyderabad, commonly known as Numaish. It is a 46-day long event, typically running from January 1st to February 15th (dates may vary slightly), making it the only eve nt of its kind in the world to be organized for such an extended period at a single venue. It was first started in 1938 during the reign of the last Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan, to promote local and indigenous products. A Grand Shopping Festival: The exhibition features around 1,500 stalls from various parts of India, and sometimes even international exhibitors, offering a vast range of products, including handicrafts from Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh, handloom garments, electronic goods, jewelry, and pottery. It's a massive market where visitors engage in bargaining for unique items. The event is a blend of commerce, culture, and entertainment. More Than Just Shopping: Apart from the shopping experience, Numaish is a major family outing destination. It includes a variety of entertainment options like joy rides (Giant Wheel, Mini Train, Ferris Wheel), food stalls offering local and international cuisine (especially Hyderabadi Haleem), and cultural programs. It symbolizes the spirit of Hyderabad and is a much-awaited annual fixture in the city's calendar. (Word Count: ? 195 words)

Tourism Tips

Health & Safety (Crowd): Numaish is extremely crowded, so be mindful of your personal belongings and keep valuables secure. The Exhibition Society usually deploys police personnel and CCTV cameras, but vigilance is key. Always use the designated entry and exit gates. If visiting with children, ensure they wear an ID or have a clear meeting point agreed upon.

Packing (Shopping): Carry cash in smaller denominations, as not all temporary stalls accept digital payments. Carry large, sturdy bags for shopping. Be prepared for the weather; a light jacket is advisable for the late evening winter chill. Wear comfortable shoes, as you will be on your feet for hours.

Accommodation (Convenient): The exhibition ground is in Nampally, a central part of Hyderabad. Staying in hotels in Nampally, Abids, or Lakdikapul is most convenient due to the excellent connectivity and proximity to the fairground. Book accommodations well in advance, especially during the exhibition months (January and February).

Other Tips (Bargaining): Bargaining is expected and encouraged, especially for handicrafts and clothing from the smaller stalls. Do not accept the first price offered. Plan your visit to include dinner at the food court, but expect long queues during peak hours. If driving, be prepared for heavy traffic and parking challenges near the venue.
