FAQs On Treta Ke Thakur Temple

Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, India
History and Significance: Treta Ke Thakur is one of the most historically and spiritually significant temples in Ayodhya, dedicated to Lord Ram, the deity of the Treta Yuga (the second of the four Hindu ages). It is believed that Lord Ram performed the Ashwamedha Yagya (horse sacrifice) on this very spot to celebrate his victory over Ravana and to reassert his sovereignty. The temple was first built by King Vikramaditya of Ujjain and was later famously rebuilt in 1784 AD by the Maratha Queen Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore, a key historical patron of Hindu temples. The sanctum houses magnificent idols of Lord Ram, Sita, Lakshman, Bharat, Shatrughan, Hanuman, and Sugreev, all carved from a single piece of black sandstone. The temple's most unique feature is its opening schedule: it is opened to the public for Darshan only once a year, on the auspicious occasion of Kartik Shukla Ekadashi (also known as Devotthan Ekadashi), which usually falls in October or November. This rarity makes the single day of Darshan an immensely special and crowded pilgrimage event:
