How To Reach Ramkot

Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, India
Ramkot is the high-ground citadel area of Ayodhya, historically recognized as the site where the fort of King Dashratha and the palace of Lord Ram once stood. Located in the western part of the city, this elevated precinct is the spiritual heart of the town, housing the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple complex. The name "Ramkot" literally translates to "Ram's Fort," and though the ancient stone fortifications have mostly disappeared over millennia, the elevated topography still suggests its defensive past. This area is a dense cluster of temples, ashrams, and old mansions, where every lane is steeped in mythological lore. Devotees believe that the vibrations in Ramkot are uniquely divine because this is the exact ground where the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu spent his childhood. The atmosphere here is filled with the constant chanting of "Sita-Ram" and the smell of incense wafting from the numerous small shrines. Navigating through Ramkot involves walking through narrow, winding alleys that open up into grand temple courtyards. It is not just a tourist spot but a living religious center where thousands of monks and pilgrims reside. The area underwent a massive transformation recently with the construction of the new Ram Mandir, turning it into one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in the world. Despite the modern security and infrastructure, Ramkot retains an old-world charm, with monkeys jumping across rooftops and ancient trees providing shade to weary travelers. It is the core from which the rest of Ayodhya expanded, making it the most historically significant zone in the entire district. :
