History and Significance:The Vishwa Shanti Stupa (World Peace Pagoda) in Vaishali is a magnificent symbol of global peace and non-violence, built by the Nipponzan Myohoji Buddhist order of Japan in 1969 under the guidance of Nichidatsu Fujii Guruji. It is one of the many such peace pagodas construct ed worldwide after World War II to promote peace, following the tragedy of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The location in Vaishali is highly significant as it is where Lord Buddha delivered his last sermon and announced his impending Mahaparinirvana. The stupa enshrines holy relics of the Buddha himself, placed both in the foundation and on top of the structure, making it a revered pilgrimage site for Buddhists globally.Layout and Experience:The Stupa stands on a raised platform, surrounded by manicured lawns and a serene atmosphere perfect for meditation. It is an integral part of the Buddhist Circuit of Bihar. The monument is usually constructed of pristine white marble and features four golden statues of the Buddha facing the four cardinal directions, depicting the important phases of his life: birth, enlightenment, teaching, and death. Adjacent to the stupa are the Abhishek Pushkarni (Coronation Tank) and an Archaeological Museum, making the complex a rich site for both spiritual reflection and historical study.
