Maner Sharif
Maner Sharif is a historic and highly significant Sufi pilgrimage center located on the banks of the Sone River, near its confluence with the Ganga. The name 'Sharif' (meaning noble) was added due to its association with renowned Sufi saints. The complex consists of two major tombs (dargahs): the Ba ri Dargah and the Chhoti Dargah. The Chhoti Dargah is the tomb of Hazrat Makhdum Shah Daulat (died 1608) and was constructed in 1616 by Ibrahim Khan Kakar, the Mughal Governor of Bihar, during the reign of Jahangir. It is celebrated as a magnificent example of Mughal architecture. The Bari Dargah is the final resting place of the great Sufi saint Hazrat Makhdum Yahya Maneri (died 13th century), whose influence extended throughout the region. The town's ancient name, Maniyar Mathan, hints at its long historical and cultural significance.
