The Sher Shah Suri Masjid, also known as the Shershahi Mosque, is a fine example of Afghan architectural style in India; It was commissioned by the Afghan Emperor Sher Shah Suri between 1540 and 1545 CE to commemorate his reign and his victory over the Mughal Emperor Humayun; Located in the southwes t corner of Purab Darwaza in the old city area of Patna (Patna City), the mosque remains an active place of worship for the local Muslim community; Its most striking architectural feature is the arrangement of its domes: a prominent central dome surrounded by four smaller domes, designed so that only three of the five domes are visible from any angle, a remarkable feat of structural design; The complex also includes a tomb covered by an octagonal stone slab; The mosque’s robust construction, intricate stone carvings, and symmetric design make it a crucial historical and architectural landmark, representing a pivotal era in the history of North India.

By Air: The nearest airport is Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport (PAT), approximately 15-18 KMS away; Take a taxi or auto-rickshaw; The travel time to Patna City is about 45-60 minutes due to traffic; By Train: The nearest major station is Patna Junction (PNBE), around 11 KMS away; The nearest local station is Patna Sahib Railway Station (PNC), which is less than 1 KMS away; Take an auto-rickshaw or electric rickshaw to the mosque from either station; By Road: The mosque is located in the dense, old-city part of Patna known as Patna City; It is best reached by local transport, as the lanes are narrow; Use Purab Darwaza as a key landmark; By Local Transport: Electric rickshaws and cycle-rickshaws are the best way to navigate the final, narrow lanes of Hajiganj; Negotiate the fare before starting the journey.
